As a member of the Board of Directors, the Youth Representative is accountable for providing strategic leadership and supporting governance decision-making for the Agency. The Youth Representative is intended to support cultural inclusivity within the Board of Directors, and the role is intended to maintain the prescience of the cycle of life and how children and youth are gifts of the Creator. The Youth Representative will take part in Board of Director proceedings and events, providing cultural and experiential knowledge relevant to discussion. The Youth Representative may suggest direction in terms of the course of action of the Board of Directors as a body entity. The Youth Representative is also intended to represent the issues and concerns of the life stage as understood within the Anishinaabe worldview. Youth Representative term is one (1) year subject to annual renewal but can be resigned at any point without penalty.
- Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.
- Understanding of the diversity of Anishinaabe cultural practice.
- Understanding or experience within social service delivery or of the child welfare sector. Experience and
knowledge of the Agency’s journey is an asset. - An ability to demonstrate respect and consideration for all perspectives across the spectrum of cultural diversity
and life circumstances. - Must be knowledgeable of the seven North Shore First Nations.
- Experience working with culturally grounded service models within First Nations is an asset.
- Experience working with Elders, Healers, and contemporary helpers is required.
- Ability to commit to an ongoing schedule of director and sub-committee meetings.
Other Requirements
- Respect for, sensitivity towards as well as knowledge and understanding of Anishnawbek culture, traditions and
the Seven Grandfather Teachings. - Ability to understand and speak Anishnawbemowin is an asset.
- Must provide a Criminal Records Check deemed satisfactory by the employer.
- Must have a Class ‘G’ Ontario Driver’s License, access to a vehicle and the ability to travel.
- Must have $1M automobile insurance coverage.
